Aluminum Material

Aluminum is an extremely important metal material in modern industry and daily life. It has a silvery-white metallic luster, a relatively light texture, and a density of about 2.7 g/cm3, which is only about one-third of the density of iron. This makes aluminum quite advantageous in applications that require weight, such as in the aerospace field, where aluminum and its alloys are used extensively to reduce aircraft weight, improving fuel efficiency and flight performance.

In machining manufacturing, aluminum is widely used because of some excellent properties, such as:

Aluminum has good electrical conductivity, which is about 60% copper, so it is also widely used in some power transmission fields, such as high-voltage overhead lines.

Aluminum also has excellent thermal conductivity and is a good conductor of heat. It is often used in the manufacture of heat exchange equipment such as radiators.

In terms of chemical properties, a dense aluminum oxide protective film is easily formed on the aluminum surface, which can effectively prevent aluminum from further reacting with substances such as oxygen and water, thereby making aluminum have good corrosion resistance under normal conditions.

Aluminum has good processing performance and can be made into products of various shapes and specifications, such as aluminum plates, aluminum foils, aluminum tubes, aluminum profiles, etc. through various processing techniques such as extrusion, rolling, forging, and casting.

6082

6082 aluminum alloy has a slightly higher strength than 6061 and has good corrosion resistance and processing performance. It can be subjected to heat treatment such as quenching and aging and various surface treatment processes. It is often used to manufacture mechanical parts, molds, bridge structures, and other products that require strength and corrosion resistance.

7075

7075 is a super-hard aluminum alloy with extremely high strength and hardness, good wear resistance, but relatively weak corrosion resistance. It can be heat-treated and strengthened and is mainly used in aerospace, military, and other fields that require extremely high material strength and hardness, such as manufacturing key aircraft structures.

Intuitive Understanding of Aluminum

Aluminum has become one of the preferred materials in the field of CNC machining due to its excellent mechanical properties, lightweight characteristics, and outstanding machinability. This module will provide a detailed introduction to the advantages and limitations of aluminum in CNC machining, helping you gain a comprehensive understanding of its value in precision manufacturing.

Advantages of Aluminum

Lightweight and High Strength

Aluminum has a low density and is lightweight, yet it possesses high strength, making it particularly suitable for weight-sensitive industries such as aerospace and automotive manufacturing.

Excellent Machinability

Aluminum is easy to cut, with minimal tool wear during processing, enabling high-precision and high-efficiency CNC machining, making it ideal for manufacturing complex geometric shapes.

Good Corrosion Resistance

The naturally formed oxide layer on the surface of aluminum provides excellent corrosion resistance, making it suitable for applications in various environmental conditions.

High Thermal and Electrical Conductivity

Aluminum has excellent thermal and electrical conductivity, making it commonly used in fields such as heat sinks and electronic components that require thermal management and electrical conductivity.

Recyclability and Environmental Friendliness

Aluminum is 100% recyclable, aligning with sustainable development principles and reducing resource waste and environmental impact.

Disadvantages of Aluminum

Lower Hardness

Compared to steel, aluminum has lower hardness and may experience wear or deformation in scenarios involving high loads or intense friction.

Higher Cost

The raw material cost of aluminum is higher compared to ordinary steel, especially in the case of high-purity or special alloys.

High Surface Treatment Requirements

Although aluminum has natural corrosion resistance, surface treatments (such as anodizing) are still required in certain harsh environments to enhance durability, increasing process complexity.

Welding Difficulties

Some aluminum alloys are prone to cracking or porosity during welding, requiring special welding techniques and technical support.
